Suspect in Felony Eluding, Causing a Collision Captured With Multi Agency Response Monday

According to the Grays Harbor County Sheriffs, Office On 11-23-20 deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Lund Road.  The reporting party called 911 to report that her 33-year-old son was having mental issues again and was being disorderly and she needed help.  The line disconnected while on the phone with 911. 

Deputies responded to the same address the day prior to assist mental health professionals who were attempting to evaluate the suspect. 

The mental health professionals did not feel safe contacting him without law enforcement being present. 

During the contact, the suspect made threats to kill law enforcement while armed with a metal weapon in his hand. 

The suspect then fled the address on foot and he was not located or evaluated.

During this investigation, deputies were informed he was also a suspect in a vehicle pursuit two days prior involving Cosmopolis PD.  The pursuit was terminated when the suspect starting going towards oncoming traffic. 

As the first deputy responded to the 911 today call asking for help, he observed the suspect leaving the residence in a 1995 Mercury Sable. 

The deputy turned around and attempted to stop the suspect by activating his lights and siren where the suspect then failed to yield and fled east on Lund Road. 

A second deputy who was responding was passed by the suspect on Lund Road and he attempted to turn his vehicle around and was involved in a collision with the first deputy. 

Neither deputy was seriously injured.  One deputy received an abrasion on his face. and one vehicle sustained front end damage the second vehicle sustained major damage to the driver’s side. 

The Washington State Patrol will be investigating the collision involving the deputies.

The suspect vehicle was located by additional responding units as he went across US Hwy 101 and struck a guardrail on North River Road. 

The suspect had fled the scene on foot. 

Multiple agencies responded to assist in the search for the suspect including the Washington State Patrol, Montesano PD, Aberdeen PD, Cosmopolis PD, and the Thurston County Sheriff’s office 

 A Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office K-9 attempted to track the suspect from the scene but eventually lost his track. 

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office was requested to respond with their drone to see if they could locate the suspect in an area of timber and clear-cuts.  The Washington State patrol aircraft Smokey responded to the scene as well. 

During the search a passing log truck driver observed the suspect cross US Hwy 101 and stopped to inform law enforcement of his observations after seeing their presence.   

WSP Smokey spotted the suspect in a clear-cut and directed law enforcement to the suspect's location. 

The suspect would not stop and continued to flee.  He was captured by the Grays Harbor K-9 unit.

  The suspect sustained minor injuries from the K-9.  He was treated at the hospital prior to being booked into the Grays Harbor County jail.  He was booked on Felony Eluding and Assault 2nd.
