ABERDEEN, Wash. — A two-vehicle collision Saturday morning at Fifth Street and Broadway Street in Aberdeen caused significant damage to both vehicles as well as a fire hydrant and school-zone equipment. Despite the extent of the damage, no injuries were reported.

Aberdeen Police officers were dispatched to the intersection at approximately 10:57 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, following reports of a collision involving two vehicles. Initial reports indicated children could be heard screaming and that one of the vehicles had come to rest against a fire hydrant.

When officers arrived, they found both vehicles with significant damage and deployed airbags. Because children were involved in the collision, the Aberdeen Fire Department was requested to the scene to evaluate those involved. No injuries were ultimately reported.

According to the investigation, a 2016 Honda driven by a 24-year-old Hoquiam resident had stopped at the posted stop sign at Fifth Street and Broadway Street. Police said the Honda then entered the intersection, where it was struck by a 2024 Dodge driven by a 16-year-old Aberdeen resident.

The impact sent the Honda off the roadway, where it struck and ran over a school-zone sign before coming to rest on the grass planting strip. The Dodge veered to the right following the collision and struck a fire hydrant.

The crash also required assistance from other City of Aberdeen departments. The Aberdeen Water Department responded to address damage to the fire hydrant, while city electricians were called to deal with exposed wiring associated with the damaged school-zone light.

Following the investigation, police issued the driver of the Honda an infraction for failure to yield the right of way.
