On May 31, 2018 at about 01:52 a.m. Hoquiam officers were dispatched to a report of a collision at Bay Avenue and 22nd Street.  Upon arrival they found a 2004 Chevrolet Impala had been traveling westbound on Bay Avenue and failed to negotiate the turn onto 22nd Street.  The vehicle continued through a chain link fence and struck an industrial pipeline, entrapping the driver.  The pipeline is no longer in use and did not contain any hazardous materials.   Hoquiam Fire Department personnel arrived and determined the driver, a 45 year old Humptulips man, was deceased.  He was the only occupant of the vehicle.

The HPD Collision Investigation Team was called out to the location.  They are currently processing the scene using the regional FARO laser mapping tool.  The investigation into the causing circumstances of the collision is ongoing and a final determination will not be made until toxicology tests results are obtained.

Hoquiam Police Sgt. Jeff Salstrom says this morning that a Humptulips man is confirmed deceased after a traffic collision at 22nd and Bay this morning just before 2 AM.  Here is more from him on that incident;
