Early Wedensday morning at approximately 1 AM Sgt. Dayton with the Hoquiam Police Department was monitoring traffic in the 200 block of Lincoln Street when he observed a silver-colored crossover SUV in the parking lot of 7-11 without a front license plate.

 

Sgt. Dayton attempted to stop the vehicle as it exited the parking lot, but the driver sped off down 5th Street, failing to stop for the flashing red light at 5th Street and Simpson Avenue. The vehicle continued down 5th street, not slowing or stopping at any of the intersections. The driver continued onto the 5th Street extension out toward the airport.

 

As the vehicle neared Willis Enterprises, the driver failed to negotiate the curve in the roadway and Dukes of Hazard over the grassy knoll on the roadside coming to rest in the recently filled-in settling pond. The 36-year-old Seattle transient exited the vehicle and attempted to run away. Sgt. Dayton was up for a run and gave chase on foot. The suspect did not get too far before coming to the edge of the pond that had not been filled in yet.

 

APD Officer Persall and K9 Ronin responded and provided assistance with an evidence track. Ronin led us to a discarded piece of paper that contained a glass pipe used to smoke controlled substances. The paper just happened to be indicia belonging to the suspect's girlfriend

 

Upon further investigation, the vehicle had been reported as stolen out of Seattle on 12/22/20. The suspect was wanted on a DOC felony warrant for failing to check in with his community corrections officer.
