In a press release from the Ocean Shores Fire Department they say that at 2:50 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, the Ocean Shores Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire in the 200 block of Octopus Avenue Northeast. First arriving units reported that a single-story home was fully engulfed in flames and threatening homes on either side. 

OSFD responded with several apparatus, including an engine, ladder truck and two medic units. Mutual aid partner District 7 also sent an engine and two crew members to assist with fire operations.

Conditions on scene were too dangerous for firefighters to attempt interior operations, including several explosions. Fire crews focused on extinguishment and containing the fire to the original home.

It took approximately for the fire to be controlled. Though crews were able to prevent the spread of fire to neighboring homes, the original structure was a complete loss.

Midway through operations, incident command on scene was informed by residents of the structure that there was likely someone inside the home. 

After initial extinguishment, a body was recovered. The body was removed and turned over to the Grays Harbor County Coroner’s Office for identification.

OSFD remained on scene in a limited capacity overnight to monitor conditions, prevent reigniton and provide security of the scene along with OSPD.

The fire is under investigation by the Oceans Shores police and fire departments and the Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s department.
