The United States Coast Guard Pacific Northwest says that they were called to rescue a well-prepared kayaker who had capsized near Grays Harbor on Sunday, August 22nd

watchstanders at U.S. Coast Guard Sector Columbia River received a MAYDAY call from a kayaker who had capsized near Grays Harbor and was being swept out to sea.

U.S. Coast Guard Station Grays Harbor and Astoria crews were responding, a good Samaritan nearby heard a kayaker needed help, went to his reported location and quickly rescued him from the water.

"The kayaker had a drysuit, life jacket, EPIRB, and a radio," said Chief Warrant Officer Michael Guerrero, command duty officer in Sector Columbia River's command center. "He was ready for the worst case scenario. He did everything right, and it saved his life."

THANK YOU to the good Samaritan crew aboard the vessel Western Edge for looking out for fellow mariners in distress. WELL DONE!!!
