Fatal Hit-and-Run Claims Life of Pedestrian Near Packwood in Lewis County On SR 12

A 66-year-old man was killed early Friday morning in a hit-and-run collision along US Highway 12 near Packwood, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:37 a.m. on March 13, 2026, near milepost 131 on Skate Creek Road South in Lewis County.

Investigators say a vehicle traveling westbound on US-12 struck a pedestrian who was in or near the roadway. The driver fled the scene following the collision.

The pedestrian, identified as Alan D. Argent, 66, of Puyallup, was later found deceased on the westbound shoulder of the highway. The Lewis County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and confirmed the death.

Authorities have not yet identified the driver or the vehicle involved. The Washington State Patrol reports that the vehicle’s make, model, and damage are currently unknown, and investigators are actively working to locate the suspect vehicle.

At this time, drugs or alcohol involvement has not been determined, and the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
