Aberdeen, Man Arrested for DUI Following Injury Collision Involving Teen Driver

Aberdeen, WA – A two-vehicle collision Wednesday morning resulted in injuries to a teenage driver and the arrest of an Aberdeen man on suspicion of driving under the influence.

According to the Aberdeen Police Department, the crash occurred on March 25 at approximately 10:33 a.m. at the intersection of East Market Street and G Street. Aberdeen Police Lieutenant Jeff Weiss was on patrol when he came upon the collision moments after it occurred.

Lt. Weiss checked on those involved and immediately requested medical assistance for a 16-year-old female driver who appeared to have suffered a possible broken leg. The teen was transported to Harbor Regional Health for evaluation and treatment.

The collision temporarily blocked the intersection, prompting a short roadway closure while officers conducted their investigation.

Preliminary findings indicate a 66-year-old Aberdeen man traveling eastbound on East Market Street failed to stop at the stop sign at G Street, striking the driver’s side of the vehicle operated by the 16-year-old.

During the investigation, officers observed signs of impairment from the 66-year-old driver consistent with alcohol and/or drug use. Field testing was conducted, and the driver was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. He was transported to the Aberdeen Police Department, where a Drug Recognition Expert conducted an additional evaluation.

Following the evaluation, the driver was taken to Harbor Regional Health for medical clearance before being booked into the Grays Harbor County Jail on suspicion of Vehicular Assault.

The incident remains under active investigation.
