Bicyclist Injured in Collision at Ocean Shores Intersection

OCEAN SHORES, Wash. — A 23-year-old bicyclist was injured Friday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle (police cruiser) at the intersection of Ensign Avenue Northwest and Pacific Boulevard Northwest in Ocean Shores, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Troopers say the collision occurred around 2:02 p.m. on April 24. Investigators determined the bicyclist, a 23-year-old of Ocean Shores, was traveling southbound on Ensign Avenue Northwest and entered the intersection, where she was struck by a westbound 2020 Ford Police Explorer traveling on Pacific Boulevard Northwest.

According to the State Patrol, Pacific Boulevard traffic had the right of way, and the collision was attributed to failure to yield by the pedestrian.

The bicyclist was transported to Community Hospital with injuries. Authorities noted she was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the SUV, an Ocean Shores police officer, was not injured. Troopers reported he was wearing a seatbelt. The vehicle sustained reportable damage but was driven from the scene.

Washington State Patrol indicated drugs or alcohol were not factors in the crash. Charges related to failure to yield were listed in connection with the bicyclist.
