Driver Airlifted Following DUI Crash Near Raymond

A Raymond man was airlifted to Tacoma General Hospital early Friday morning following a serious single-vehicle crash in Pacific County, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The collision occurred around 5:24 a.m. on May 9 along State Route 6 near milepost 3, east of Raymond.

Troopers say an 18-year-old driver from Raymond was traveling eastbound on SR 6 when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve to the left. The vehicle reportedly left the roadway to the right, struck an embankment, and rolled over before coming to rest upside down in a ditch.

The driver, identified by the Washington State Patrol as an 18-year-old male, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and suffered injuries requiring transport by air ambulance to Tacoma General Hospital.

Investigators say drugs or alcohol was involved in the collision. The cause of the crash was listed as DUI and driving too fast for conditions.

The vehicle involved, a red 2012 Volvo S60, was totaled in the crash and removed from the scene by Aberdeen Auto Wrecking.

The incident remains under investigation by the Washington State Patrol.
