Hoquiam firefighters and Police officers were busy yesterday with 2 separate structure fires over the first day of the Labor Day Weekend. The first fire of the day we have heard that one person was transported for injuries sustained by the fire, the second home was vacant in a state of remodeling.
The first fire of the day Grays Harbor Scanner posted the first alert at about 3:41 in the afternoon. The was a fully involved residential structure fire in the 700 block of Queen Ave that had been originally said to be a garage on fire.
According to Police Chief Myers upon the arrival of the first Hoquiam PD units, the one story home was already fully engulfed in flame from the front and side windows. HFD called a second alarm for more resources.
The homeowner had reportedly escaped but did suffer significant burns to his extremities. He was being treated at the scene.
At the time of the initial report, Aberdeen Fire units were all committed to a multi-vehicle injury collision on B Street in Aberdeen. Just after the arrival of the first HFD engines, there was an aid call at the Hoquiam Jail which had to be dispatched to an aid car from GHFD#2 in Central Park as there were no other units available in Hoquiam or Aberdeen.

The second fire for Saturday was first posted on the Grays Harbor Scanner page at 10:36 PM after several messages to the page and posts. The fire was a fully involved residential structure fire in the 2800 block of Sumner Ave.
According to Hoquiam Police Chief Myers, initial reports are the House was vacant and under renovation. Apparently, there were workers on site earlier in the day.
Upon the arrival of Hoquiam Police and Fire units, the house was already fully engulfed in flame.
Sumner Ave (US 101) was closed for fire apparatus; with detours in place on side streets.
