At about 2:57 AM Saturday morning November 3rd, Aberdeen Police officers were dispatched to the 100 block S. Maple St. for an in-progress vehicle prowl.

The victim business owner had reported an earlier prowl and was monitoring his lot through the camera system when he observed the suspects pull back into his business in a 1998 Dodge Durango, and the suspects began siphoning gas from various fleet vehicles.

As an officer pulled into the lot to contact the suspects, they fled in their vehicle without turning their lights on.  The two officers in marked patrol cars immediately gave chase with lights and sirens, as the suspects drove the Port Industrial Road west into Hoquiam onto Bay Ave.

The Durango (the suspect vehicle) turned northbound onto 28th Street, then began making a variety of turns on different residential streets, in an effort to elude the officers.

In the area of Simpson Ave. and Ontario St. a Hoquiam Police sergeant joined the pursuit, and the vehicle continued west into downtown Hoquiam.  Additional Hoquiam police officers joined in the effort to apprehend the vehicle and occupants.

At the intersection of Emerson and O St. the driver made an abrupt stop and he and the male passenger from the right front seat jumped out and ran on foot.  The Hoquiam sergeant followed the driver in his vehicle, while the Hoquiam officer chased the passenger on foot.

An Aberdeen officer was able to get into the Durango that was still in gear idling down the roadway and shut the vehicle down.

A 32-year old Milwaukie Oregon female passenger remained in the vehicle, and she was taken into custody without incident.

The Hoquiam sergeant apprehended the 41-year old Bend Oregon male driver, while the Hoquiam officer apprehended the 44-year old Madras Oregon male passenger.

Once the suspects were in custody, officers began sorting out why the suspects were actively fleeing.  Officers learned through a Vehicle Identification Number check that the Durango was reported stolen in Clark County.

The driver refused to identify himself, but his fingerprints were sent to the WSP fingerprint system and returned with a positive identification.

During the search of the driver’s clothing during booking, a quantity of suspected methamphetamine was located.  Both passengers were cooperative with officers once apprehended.

The driver was subsequently booked into the Grays Harbor County Jail for felony charges of Attempting to Elude a Police Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and VUCSA (drugs); after being cited and released on the Aberdeen Municipal Court charges of Obstructing a Law Enforcement Officer, Vehicle Prowling, Criminal Trespass and Theft 3rd

The male passenger was booked and released for Obstructing, Vehicle Prowling, Criminal Trespass and Theft 3rd.  The female passenger was booked and released for Vehicle Prowling, Criminal Trespass and Theft 3rd.
