Two homes and several vehicles were lost to a fire in Aberdeen on Friday Battalion Chief Troy Palmer said it was reported by a firefighter at 1:45 PM on June 5th. The Aberdeen Fire Department firefighter was driving the department ladder truck to a fueling depot on the Port Industrial Rd. when he noticed some black smoke in the area of the 1500 block of W. Market St. in Aberdeen. Upon investigation he discovered a large debris and trailer fire between two residences rapidly spreading to the homes and vehicles.

The firefighter radioed the fire into Grays Harbor E-911 dispatch and then proceeded to evacuate the two occupied residences. As the full complement of the Aberdeen Fire Department arrived on scene minutes later the fire had already spread into the attics of both homes and involved a trailer and two vehicles. A second alarm was requested as well as an additional engine from Cosmopolis Fire Dept. and Grays Harbor Fire District #2.
Hoquiam Fire Dept. was already responding with one engine from the initial dispatch.
As additional units arrived on scene including the Aberdeen Fire Chief and Asst. Fire Chief the scene was separated into two working incidents. A third alarm was called to get additional personnel. Interior fire attacks were conducted into both of the burning structures. A total of 34 firefighters from Aberdeen, Hoquiam, Cosmopolis, and GHFD#2 operated on the scene as well as the Aberdeen Fire Chief and Asst. Fire Chief. APD, Grays Harbor PUD, and Cascade Natural Gas all assisted in the incident. Multiple medical calls and a fire alarm came in during the fire which mutual aid agencies handled.
Damage totals are still being estimated, however both homes are considered total losses as are several vehicles. The cause is currently under investigation however the point of origin has been determined outside, and in between the two residences. There were no reported civilian or firefighter injuries.
