A 31-year-old Napavine man was the driver of a white 1998 Western CHIP truck and trailer that fell asleep at the wheel and went off the roadway Wednesday morning July 22nd on State Route 12 2 miles east of Aberdeen.
The collision occurred at 3:22 am in the eastbound direction of State Route 12. The truck had been traveling eastbound when the driver fell asleep with the truck driving off the roadway, struck the guardrail, and a power pole coming to rest on its side.
Radio traffic indicated that the truck had gone down an embankment with the driver trapped at the time due to powerlines being on and over the truck. The driver did self extricate with no injuries.
According to the Washington State Patrol report, the driver is being charged with negligent driving 2nd degree.
