The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Advisory for 6 am to 6 pm pst Wednesday, January 9th.

Difference between High Wind Watch and Warning

High Wind Watch

A High Wind Watch is issued when the following conditions are possible:

1) sustained winds of 40 mph or higher for one hour or more

OR

2) wind gusts of 58 mph or higher for any duration.



Wind Advisory

A Wind Advisory is issued when the following conditions are expected:

1) sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph for an hour or more.

AND/OR

2) wind gusts of 46 to 57 mph for any duration.

High Wind Warning

A High Wind Warning is issued when the following conditions are expected:

1) sustained winds of 40 mph or higher for one hour or more

OR

2) wind gusts of 58 mph or higher for any duration.

WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM TO 6 PM PST WEDNESDAY...

The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a Wind Advisory, which is in effect from 6 AM to 6 PM PST Wednesday.

* WIND...Southeast wind 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph.

* SOME AFFECTED LOCATIONS...Westport, Ocean Shores, Hoquiam, Moclips.

* TIMING...Strong southeast winds will develop Wednesday morning and afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Winds may snap tree branches and cause local power outages.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
