A 30-year-old King County resident is in custody at the Grays Harbor County Jail this morning after a dangerous crime spree in the West end of Aberdeen yesterday. Around 7:23 AM, Aberdeen Officers were dispatched to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 2700 block of Simpson Avenue. A vehicle was missing a license plate and the occupant was acting suspicious. Aberdeen officers arrived moments later and the suspect left before police arrived. The vehicle returned to a residence in Renton and Aberdeen Officers requested they attempt to contact the owner to determine if they knew where the car was.

Renton Police called back and determined the vehicle was stolen. The owner requested to leave it at the scene rather than have it impounded. Aberdeen Officers contacted neighboring businesses to attempt to locate surveillance footage of the vehicle. Around 11 AM, numerous callers reported a male suspect had returned to the car. Aberdeen officers were in route when a nearby business owner attempted to stop the suspect from stealing the vehicle. In the process of fleeing with the stolen car again, he struck the business owner and left the scene. Thankfully the business owner only sustained minor injuries.

Aberdeen Police Officers, Washington State Patrol Troopers, Hoquiam Police Officers, and Grays Harbor County Deputies responded to assist. Citizens started to report the vehicle was driving east on Cherry Street. As officers converged on the area, the vehicle was located unoccupied and officers and citizens saw the suspect running eastbound several blocks away. The suspect ran up to 5th Street and entered the woods east of Conger and started to run up the steep hill. GHSO K9 Tango arrived and tracked the suspect to Martin Street and officers contained the area.

Aberdeen Officers could hear sounds of a struggle inside the residence where the track ended and entered the residence to find an Aberdeen resident bleeding from the head. The victim stated the suspect hit him in the head repeatedly and ran upstairs. Aberdeen Officers and GHSO K9 went to the second floor and discovered an open window to the second floor roof as containment officers observed the suspect throw a black handgun onto a deck of the neighbors.

Officers surrounded the residence and the Aberdeen Fire Department responded with a ladder truck to assist the suspect with coming down safely. The suspect was arrested when he reached the ground and it was determined the handgun was loaded and the suspect was a convicted felon. The victim was transported to Grays Harbor Community Hospital for treatment and Aberdeen Police Detectives processed the residence for evidence.

The suspect was booked into the Grays Harbor County Jail on charges of Burglary 1st degree, Possession of Stolen Vehicle, Vehicular Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Violation of Uniform Controlled Substance Act.
