OCEAN SHORES, Wash. — Two people were arrested following an investigation into a reported burglary and theft of copper from the Shilo Inn property in Ocean Shores, according to the Ocean Shores Police Department.

Police said investigators developed leads that included identifying information for a vehicle believed to be associated with those involved in the theft.

While on routine patrol, Officer Papac spotted a vehicle matching that description parked near the Chance a La Mer beach approach. Papac and Sergeant Fode then conducted a check of the Shilo Inn property as part of the ongoing investigation.

Both were transported to the Grays Harbor County Jail and booked on suspicion of Burglary in the Second Degree. The man was additionally booked on suspicion of Malicious Mischief in the First Degree and Theft in the First Degree.

As part of the investigation, officers seized the vehicle believed to be associated with the suspects. Police reported finding a significant amount of suspected stolen copper inside the vehicle, along with two backpacks containing cut copper.

Officers also discovered a large quantity of copper pipe and wire in the dunes behind the Shilo Inn property.

The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to document and identify the recovered property. Police are also investigating whether additional offenses may have occurred or whether other individuals were involved.

The Ocean Shores Police Department credited Sergeant Fode, Officer Papac and Officer Elia for their work on the case, saying investigative follow-up, communication and proactive patrol efforts contributed to identifying the vehicle and apprehending the two suspects.
