Earlier this morning around 10:38 AM Grays Harbor Scanner put this alert out to its subscribers: Elma, officers responding to a burglary in progress - Elma Elementary, portable classroom in the back. The calling party arrived to find the window broken out and someone sleeping in the room rolled up in a rug. Multiple officers responding.

Later in the day the Elma Police Department followed up on this incident with a social media post saying Elma Police officers responded to a reported burglary in progress at the Elma Elementary School.

Officers swiftly responded and located a subject still inside one of the portable classrooms. The subject was taken into custody without incident and was subsequently booked into jail on multiple felony-level offenses.

They said "We want to assure the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community related to this incident.

The safety of the students and staff members of all our schools is our top priority."
