WESTPORT, WA — An incident first reported to Grays Harbor Scanner subscribers Wednesday morning as an active law enforcement response in Westport has now been confirmed as the service of a search warrant connected to a months-long Grays Harbor Drug Task Force investigation.

At 9:38 a.m., Grays Harbor Scanner sent a Subscribers First Alert as the incident was unfolding:

Westport: Detectives and WPD Chief out at 600 block W Ocean Ave, had one subject fighting with them. Advising that they have him in custody at this time, requesting EMS for taser deployment and pepper spray exposure. 9:38 AM.

Additional information released following the incident says the Grays Harbor Drug Task Force (GHDTF), assisted by the Westport Police Department and Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office, served a search warrant in the 600 block of Ocean Avenue in Westport.

According to the information released, the warrant followed an approximately three-month investigation into the alleged sale of illegal narcotics from the location. During the investigation, GHDTF detectives reportedly conducted multiple controlled purchases of cocaine from the suspect.

Westport Man Arrested

Authorities arrested a 50-year-old Westport man (CUSTER, CHRISTOPHER MATT) who lives at the location. He was booked into the Grays Harbor County Jail on multiple allegations, including delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Authorities also said the man had an outstanding warrant for eluding a law enforcement officer.

During the search, detectives reported finding approximately five ounces of cocaine, multiple pounds of marijuana and two firearms. Authorities said the suspect was prohibited from possessing firearms because of a prior felony conviction.

The initial Grays Harbor Scanner subscriber alert indicated there had been a struggle with law enforcement during the operation and that the suspect was taken into custody. EMS was requested following a reported Taser deployment and pepper spray exposure.
