Grays Harbor Scanner has the latest update on the vehicle pursuit, accident and grass fire that occurred this afternoon on Fairgrounds Road in Elma after a short pursuit by a Washington State Patrol Officer of a speeding vehicle. 

According to a State Patrol report, the accident occurred on July 17th, 2018 at 3:21 in the afternoon after a vehicle westbound State Route 8 at milepost 2 (just before the east end of Elma) was being stopped for speeding by a State Patrol Trooper fled turning right onto Fairground Road.\

The vehicle, a green 1999Acuraa 32tl 4 door pulled over and let the passengers out.  There were 2 passengers, an 18-year-old Olympia woman, and an 18-year-old Olympia man. 

The driver, a 47-year-old Olympia man then took off at a high rate striking 2 power poles down the road at Filly Lane and striking several mailboxes.  From earlier reports, we also know that this blew a transformer, took out power to the area and caused a grass fire. 

After striking the poles the vehicle flipped end over end coming to rest upside down in the ditch, where the driver then got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.  An extensive search by law enforcement officers in the area including a k9 officer did not turn up the suspect.  

The two passengers weren't injured as they were not part of the accident scene,  with the vehicle totaled and impounded.  

The report does not indicate the reason for the subject for running (ie warrant or other reasons etc...) the charges were for speeding. 

As is our policy names are not published, especially in case of the passengers as it is not "indicated" that they were arrested on any charges nor has a community request for a broad ATL been asked for on the suspect.
