Van Shot at Sunday Morning At Homeless Camp

The Aberdeen Police Department is looking for information on a shooting that occurred Sunday morning where a van with people sleeping it in down at the homeless river camp was shot at and hit with a shotgun.

On 8-12-18 about 0327 hours, Aberdeen Police Officers were dispatched to the front of the Aberdeen Police Department (APD) for a complaint of a drive-by shooting that just occurred at 301 E. River Street, the River Transient Camp. The Officers contacted the complainant and observed his Chevrolet Suburban appeared to have been shot with a shotgun.

The complainant was sleeping in his vehicle at the River Camp when he was woken up by something hitting the passenger side of his vehicle and glass flying over him. He looked and saw the suspect vehicle right next to him and pulling away. The vehicle had a loud exhaust and was spitting rocks as it took off. The complainant tried to follow the suspect, but lost him in the area of the B Street 7-Eleven. The complainant went to APD to report the crime. He gave a statement to the officer. He believes the shooting is a retaliation for a domestic issue.

Officers responded to the River Camp and located the crime scene which was documented. A shotgun wade was located and collected for evidence.
