We have an update from the Grays Harbor County Sheriffs Office this morning on a search happening north of Hoquiam that we first posted an alert to on our Facebook Page last night.  The picture in this article of the missing person was provided by family members of the missing.

The Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office located a vehicle that was abandoned US 101 at milepost 95.5 on March 27th and the following day the Sheriff’s Office was contacted by Bellingham Police Department and advised the vehicle was associated with a missing person out of their agency.  The missing person being Joann W Nelson, 78 years old out of their area.

Nelson was said to have spent the night at a hotel in Ocean Shores on March 26th and was possibly seen walking on Polson Camp Road on March 27th reported by a nearby resident.

Deputies starting searching the area for Nelson last evening March 28th back at the location where her car was found abandoned.

Nelson’s phone was tracked and it showed her phone was in the area of Polson Camp Road.  Due to the remote area and the lack of cell towers the accuracy of the cell phone has a very low pinpoint accuracy.  The phone could be located in a four-mile radius of the last pinged location.

A search and rescue mission was started with ground searchers, bloodhounds and searchers in vehicles starting to search the surrounding area.  A military helicopter was scheduled for a training mission and agreed to fly over the area with a heat-seeking camera.

As of 03-29-19 at 0800 hours Nelson has not been located.  The search will continue today.

Nelson was last seen wearing a dark-colored windbreaker, shirt, pants and carrying a dark backpack. Nelson is bi-polar and is off her medication. **Nelson now has grey hair** If seen please contact GH County 911 Dispatch at 360-533-8765.
