On April 9th at 7:50 PM, Hoquiam Police and Hoquiam Fire responded to a rollover collision at the base of the Simpson Avenue Bridge at 10th and Simpson Avenue.

A 2007 Dodge Ram being driven by an 18-year-old Raymond man was struck by a 2011 Toyota Scion that was crossing Simpson Avenue from 10th Street southbound. The Scion was being driven by a 69-year-old Hoquiam woman.

The force of the collision caused the pickup truck to spin 180 degrees and up and over the concrete barrier on the south side of the Simpson Avenue bridge. Both the 18-year-old man and his 18-year-old male passenger were found alert and standing in the cab of the truck. Both were able to climb out of the passenger side window with the assistance of Hoquiam Fire.

The 69-year-old Hoquiam woman was not injured in the collision. The passenger of the truck was transported to Grays Harbor Community Hospital by HFD for a minor, non-life threatening injury.

Traffic was down to one lane during this time and the Hoquiam Police Explorers of Post #23 were called in for the task of keeping traffic flowing safely for Officers and Firefighters on scene. This is another great example of our Hoquiam youth being involved in the community. The Hoquiam Police Explorer Post is very active in the department and are an invaluable resource to the community and department.
