An early morning fire in Hoquiam is out, but the cause is under investigation says the Hoquiam Police Department. The fire call came in at 5:28 am, Hoquiam Fire and Police units were dispatched to the reported structure fire in the 2300 block of Queets Ave.
Hoquiam Police Chief Myers said the initial calls to 911 indicated the unoccupied structure appeared to be on fire with flames and smoke visible from the back of the house.
Hoquiam Fire and Aberdeen Fire units immediately responded to the scene. It is protocol for both agencies to be automatically dispatched to confirmed structure fires.
The fire is currently out, but fire and police investigators remain at the scene at this time. The roadway in the area is closed due to fire apparatus and water lines.
Motorists are reminded it is illegal and threatens the safety of firefighters to drive over a fire line or hose laying in the roadway. In addition to cutting water supply, the hose can be damaged and may later burst without warning. Any fire line which is driven over must be taken out of service and be inspected.
The fire department is currently working to determine cause and origin of the fire.
