Tumwater man hits pedestrian in construction zone on SR 8 and Summit Lake Rd Wednesday.

A pedestrian was struck and injured in a construction area on State Route 8 at Summit Lake Road yesterday on August 7th at 8:41 in the morning. 

The Washington State Patrol says that the driver of a tan 1992 Buick Century, a 74-year-old Tumwater man had been traveling on Summit Lake Road south approaching State Route 8 where State Route 8 at Summit Road had been closed due to construction.  The driver continued onto State Route 8 past the road closure signs that were on Summit Lake Road where a pedestrian (road worker?  the report does not detail out)  attempted to stop the vehicle and was struck.

The pedestrian a 48-year-old Centralia man was transported to St Peters Hospital for his injuries.

It is said that the vehicle left the scene, but that the vehicle was later impounded.  Details about the apprehension are not included in the accident report.  

There was a passenger in the vehicle, a 73-year-old Olympia woman. 

Case of the accident according to the Washington State Patrol report is felony hit and run, with charges pending of assault 2nd degree / reckless endangerment.
