We have an official update on a situation that took place in Aberdeen where we asked the public to be patient in asking for questions and posting details during a sensitive matter involving the Aberdeen Police department and a 58-year old Aberdeen man.  The Aberdeen Police Department says in an official release that the man is in the Aberdeen Jail this morning following a stand-off at his residence Monday afternoon after a domestic dispute prompting the crisis situation.

Officers responded just before 3 PM  to a report in the 500 block of N. M St. that the man was dousing the clothing he was wearing with gasoline and threatening to set himself on fire with lighters he was holding in both hands. 

Officers from APD and a crisis negotiator from the Hoquiam Police spoke with the man for over an hour while the Aberdeen Fire Department staged about a block away. During the negotiation phase, the man repeatedly lit the lighters. Officers were able to negotiate with the man to walk to the bottom of the stairs, where less-lethal tools were deployed and the man was taken into custody by multiple officers before he could use the lighters to ignite his clothing.

The man was transported to the Grays Harbor Community Hospital around 4:15 PM, where he was treated and released to corrections staff. The man faces Aberdeen Municipal Court Malicious Mischief charges related to damage in the house during the domestic dispute.
