April 2nd Fire At A Westport Hotel Still Under Investigation

During the early morning hours on April 2nd, South Beach Regional Fire Authority was dispatched to 421 E Neddie Rose Drive (The Islander Motel) for a structure fire. The reporting party advised flames scene from the top story, and it was unknown if anyone was inside. Upon arrival, fire crews found heavy smoke and flames from the third floor and one unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot.

Due to these circumstances, a transitional fire attack and a search was performed on the fire floor with first arriving firefighters.

Mutual aid was requested from Aberdeen Fire Department to assist with the blaze. The main body of fire was under control and extinguished within minutes of arrival and which contained the fire primarily to the floor of origin.

Fire crews remained on scene for several hours mopping up and overhauling hot spots.
