The Aberdeen Police Department has shared an update to an incident first posted on the Grays Harbor Scanner Facebook Page as a public alert. They say that they are still looking for videos of the incident, Witnesses, and the drivers of 2 separate vehicles that hit, and ran over the victim. 

On January 4th, 2023 at approximately 5:13 PM, Aberdeen Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a report of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian in the intersection of Simpson Avenue and Scammell. Dispatch advised the subject had been completely run over. 

Aberdeen Police and Fire responded and administered aid to the victim, who was ultimately transported to Grays Harbor Regional Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. 

The Aberdeen Police Department collision investigation team was called out to investigate the collision, as well as the Aberdeen Street Department to divert traffic during the initial investigation, of approximately 4 hours.

Based on witness statements and video obtained, it appears the subject was struck by two separate vehicles, both of which left the incident before police arrival. Aberdeen Detectives are continuing to investigate and are checking local businesses for camera footage. If anyone in the immediate area has video, Detectives would like to know.

  Detectives will release further information on the vehicles when it becomes available. 

The victim was a 31-year-old male from Aberdeen. Family members have been contacted, but the name is being withheld until release by the Grays Harbor Coroners office.

According to the Aberdeen Police Department, an 18-year-old Cosmopolis man is in custody following an incident near Stevens Elementary and Miller JR High.  

The incident occurred on December 6th around 8:03 AM Aberdeen Police Officers were dispatched to Miller Jr. High School (located in south Aberdeen) regarding a report from staff that a student had been chased and grabbed by a male while on her way to school. Upon investigation, it was determined the event had occurred in the south parking lot of Stevens Elementary School. This parking lot is located between the elementary school and the junior high. School employees immediately obtained the details of the incident from the student and reported it to the police.

Aberdeen Officers responded and were able to view the incident on the Aberdeen School District's surveillance video. The video substantiated the student’s version of the events and showed the male suspect had his genitalia exposed while he was running after the student, possibly performing a sexual act upon himself. The Aberdeen Police Department with the full cooperation of the Aberdeen School District immediately began an investigation into this incident. As the investigation progressed, Aberdeen Police Officers maintained a heightened presence in the area.  

A couple of visitors to the Aberdeen area didn't get the Welcome one would expect, as they were dining someone stole their electric bikes from their hitch attached to their vehicle. 

Lt. Snodgrass with the Aberdeen Police Department says that On November 16th, 2022 at approximately, 1828hrs, officers responded to a report of a theft of electric bicycles from the parking lot of Billy’s in Aberdeen.

 Upon arrival, the officers contacted the victims, who were visiting the area from Canada, and had just finished dining at the restaurant, when they discovered their expensive electric bicycles had been stolen from the hitch attached to their vehicle. 

The Officers were able to review surveillance video from inside Billy’s and observed two suspects cutting the bicycles from the back of the vehicle, and carrying them southbound across Heron Street, and into the alley. The bicycles were secured together by a high-quality lock at the time, and the suspects were unable to separate them. 

The Officers relocated their patrol vehicle to the alley, and began checking the area on foot, when they discovered the two males around the corner of a nearby building, still attempting to cut the lock from the bicycles. 

The Officers coordinated the response of additional units, and subsequently apprehended both suspects without incident. Of note, both suspects were found in possession of dangerous weapons. The two were arrested on Theft 1st degree charges, and possession of dangerous weapons. The bicycles were returned to their happy owners.

The Aberdeen Police Department says this evening that the suspect in last night's hit-and-run pedestrian fatality collision was found deceased with a self-inflicted gunshot wound early this morning by the Grays Harbor County Sheriffs Office. 

The Hit and Run Pedestrian collision occurred on November 16th, 2022 at 9:13 PM when Aberdeen officers were dispatched to a vehicle verses pedestrian hit-and-run collision on Boone Street at Marion Street in South Aberdeen. 

Upon arrival, officers located a deceased female lying in the roadway at Marion Street. As of approximately 1500 hours per the Grays Harbor Coroner’s Office the victim has been identified and family members have been notified. The Aberdeen Police Department appreciates those citizens who stopped to help, report and render aid. At this time, this continues to be an active/ongoing investigation. The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while Officers and Detectives processed the scene.

The owner of the truck in this incident was discovered early this morning with what appears at this time to be a self-inflicted gun shot wound.
