The Washington State Patrol says that 2 drivers were injured after one fell asleep causing a 2 vehicle collision on State Route 109 Saturday Afternoon. 

The collision occurred on Saturday, September 11th at 1:33pm pm State Route 109 near milepost 5 when a 53-year-old Elma man driving a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling south on SR 109 when he fell asleep at the wheel, left the roadway to the right, over corrected, and hit a dirt embankment. He then went back into the roadway and collided head on with a 2012 Nissan Versa driven by a 25-year-old Seattle man.

The report states both drivers were injured, however only indicates that the Seattle man was airlifted to Harborview.  Earlier radio traffic indicated that both drivers were being airlifted. 

The Elma man is being charged with negligent driving 2nd degree and it is not known if drugs or alcohol were involved. 

The Hoquiam Police Department says in a social media post Saturday Afternoon that they made multiple arrests after a call came in about an in progress theft of a catalytic converter, a theft crime that has been on a sharp increase in our area.  

At 6:31 am this morning, Hoquiam officers were dispatched to the area of Buchanan Street and Emerson Avenue regarding the theft of a catalytic converter from a motor home that had just occurred. After gathering initial information from the witness and confirming a crime occurred, officers in the Aberdeen/Hoquiam area were on the lookout for a red Chevrolet Tahoe type vehicle. The witness was also able to provide a description of at least three suspects.

The Hoquiam Police Department said in a social media post that this morning, that while officers were out investigating a vehicle collision in the 2900 block of Simpson Ave, an unrelated vehicle collided with one of their patrol SUVs and rolling.
 
The incident occurred on September 4th, 2021 at 4:16 AM when HPD officers were clearing a 3 vehicle collision in the 2900 block of Simpson Avenue when a 51-year-old Aberdeen woman driving a 2015 Dodge Dart collided with a marked HPD patrol vehicle which was blocking the road for the tow truck.
 
The patrol vehicle, a 2014 Dodge Durango, had it's emergency LED lights activated at the time of the collision and was parked approximately 100 feet behind the initial collision scene as the tow truck operator and police officers were clearing the roadway. The police SUV was not occupied at the time of the collision. After striking the patrol vehicle, the Dodge Dart rolled once and came to rest on the north planting strip on Simpson Avenue.
 

The female driver of the Dodge Dart and her male passenger only received minor scrapes and bruises and were not transported to the hospital. There were no signs of impairment; however, the female drivers indicated she had difficulty seeing at night.

 
 

A Hoquiam woman was airlifted to Harborview in Seattle after her vehicle failed to maintain traction and caused a 2 vehicle Collision Monday evening. 

According to a Washington State Patrol report the collision occurred on Monday, August 30th, 2021 at 6:07 Pm.  The Hoquiam woman 34, was driving a 2010 Kia Forte traveling southbound on US 101 at Youmans when the tires of the vehicle failed and the driver was unable to maintain control of the vehicle.  The Kia then crossed the highway and went onto Youmans road striking another vehicle a 2020 Honda CRV driven by a 60-year-old Hoquiam man that had been traveling northbound on US 101 and making a right hand turn onto Youmans Road. 

The driver of the Kia, the Hoquiam woman was taken to Bowerman airport where she was then flown to Seattle, Harborview. 

The Hoquiam man, was not injured.  

The Hoquiam woman is being charged with negligent driving 2nd degree for defective tires.
