Aberdeen Man Attacks Pedestrian On A Bike Without Provocation, Fights With Officers

The Aberdeen Police Department says that a 59-year-old Hoquiam man that was riding his bicycle westbound on Sumner Avenue was stopped by a 30-year-old Aberdeen man, who then began punching him without provocation. The suspect was later transported to Community Hospital for high levels of Alcohol in his system.  While being transported to the APD jail he then head butted the window of a patrol car, causing the window to shatter and fought with officers.

On July 8, 2023, at 7:01 p.m. Aberdeen Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Sumner for a fight between two males. When they arrived, the officers learned that a 59-year-old Hoquiam man was riding his bicycle westbound on Sumner Avenue. The bicyclist was stopped by a 30-year-old Aberdeen man, who then began punching him without provocation. Several witnesses were able to separate the men until officers arrived on scene. 

The witness’ provided their account of the fight and the Aberdeen man was arrested for Assault 4th Degree. After being handcuffed, the suspect resisted the officers’ attempts to put him in the patrol car and at one point kicked an officer in the face. He was eventually transported to the Aberdeen City Jail, where he received medical attention for a cut to his hand because of a broken bottle that he had been holding at the time of the assault. 

The suspect was later transported to the Harbor Regional Hospital (HRH) because of a high alcohol level in his system. Upon being released from the hospital, the suspect headbutted the window of a patrol car causing the window to shatter. The suspect was re-evaluated by hospital staff. The Hoquiam man received medical attention for his injures at HRH and was released. The suspect was booked into the Aberdeen City Jail for Assault 4th Degree, Assault 3rd Degree, Malicious Mischief 1st Degree and Resisting Arrest.
