Elma Woman Rolls Vehicle Avoiding Deer Near Shelton

It is always hard to remember when driving and all of a sudden, you are surprised by something in the roadway, especially a deer. "Hit the deer"  especially if you are driving at a speed limit on a highway.  An Elma woman learned this the hard way on Thursday morning.

The rollover collision occurred on Thursday morning June 22nd, at 1:09 AM on US 101 near the Shelton Matlock RD Shelton.  The 50-year-old Elma woman along with 2 passengers, a 43-year-old Elma woman and a 5-year-old juvenile were traveling on US 101 southbound when the driver swerved to the right to miss striking a deer in the roadway. The vehicle left the roadway to the right, coming to rest 50 feet down the embankment on its top.

The driver, the adult passengers were both transported to St. Peters hospital Olympia for their injuries. The Juvenile was transported to the hospital as a precaution.

The driver was cited for DWLS 3RD DEGREE AND NEGLIGENT 2ND.  
No alcohol or drugs were involved.  Everyone had been wearing their seatbelts and the child was in the appropriate seat device.
