
ABERDEEN, Wash. — Two inmates housed at the Aberdeen City Jail are facing additional criminal charges after making separate attempts to escape custody Friday afternoon.
According to the Aberdeen Police Department, officers were called to the Aberdeen City Jail at approximately 1:49 p.m. on Friday, June 26, after jail staff reported that two inmates were experiencing unrelated medical emergencies. Personnel from the Aberdeen Fire Department responded to evaluate both individuals.
Following their medical evaluations, both inmates were transported to Grays Harbor Regional Health for additional treatment.

The first escape attempt occurred as one of the inmates was being loaded into an ambulance outside the jail. Police say the inmate suddenly jumped from the ambulance and ran westbound on foot. An on-duty Police Services Officer immediately gave chase, quickly apprehending the inmate and returning him to the Aberdeen City Jail without further incident.
Later that afternoon, at approximately 2:36 p.m., the second inmate was released from treatment at Grays Harbor Regional Health. As officers escorted the inmate to a waiting patrol vehicle, he also attempted to flee on foot. Officers quickly caught the inmate and transported him back to the Aberdeen City Jail.
As a result of the escape attempts, both inmates are being referred for the following additional charges:
- Escape in the Third Degree
- Obstructing a Law Enforcement Officer
- Making a False or Misleading Statement
Both inmates are scheduled to be arraigned on the new charges on Monday
