UPDATE - The Aberdeen Police Department sent us an update advising At approximately 8:14 am today, Aberdeen officers responded to a report of a trailer fire in the 200 block of S. Mill Street, following a neighbors report of an explosion. A family of four, including two young children aged 3 and 4, lived in the trailer. When officers arrived, the trailer was not on fire, and all family members had escaped but suffered significant burns. The victims had walked two blocks to a family member’s house, where they received initial treatment. One of the children was airlifted from the scene and the other three were transported to the Harbor Regional Health hospital.
Initial investigation suggests that the fire may have been caused by a propane tank and a small heater used for heating the trailer. There are currently no updates on the victims’ conditions. The investigation is ongoing, but investigators do not believe there is any foul play or criminal intent involved.
We want to remind everyone that if you are using a portable propane heater indoors, while not advised, make sure there is proper ventilation and automatic shutoff safety features as well as carbon monoxide detectors.
